Council Supports Community Projects

In the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, the Shire of Narrogin increased the Community Chest Fund grant pool to $100,000 and the limit on individual applications was increased up to a maximum $5,000 cash or in-kind support.

The Community Chest Grants 2020/2021 (Round 2) opened with a balance of $43,000 and attracted nine applications seeking funding support totalling more than $32,000 for a range of projects that demonstrated benefit to the Narrogin community.

At the Ordinary Council Meeting held on 24 March 2021, applications to the value of $21,000 were supported.

The successful applicants are:

  1. Dryandra Regional Equestrian Association Inc

The Dryandra Regional Equestrian Association was granted $5,000 to help to meet the costs of the two-day event to be held in June 2021. The event attracts around 200 competitors but due to COVID-19 was cancelled in 2020. The event is the group’s major fundraising activity for the year.

  1. Menshed Narrogin Inc

Menshed was granted $2,500 to assist with the purchase of a vehicle hoist to be installed at the premises, leased from the Shire, on Clayton Road.

  1. Narrogin Croquet Club Inc

Narrogin Croquet Club are continuing with the refurbishment of the clubrooms and kitchen in the leadup to the centenary celebrations to be held in 2024. They were granted $2,500 towards the costs to upgrade the external doors and fly screens for improved security and a new stainless-steel bench in the kitchen.

  1. Narrogin Dirt Bike Association Inc

Narrogin Dirt Bike Association Inc was granted $2,300 towards the cost of supplying and installing a fence around a portion of the racetrack.

  1. Narrogin Repertory Club Inc

The Repertory Club were granted $5,000 to assist with the cost to upgrade the toilet facilities located at the Thornton Theatre. The upgrade is proposed to make the venue more inclusive with appropriate disability access for patrons.

  1. Quarter Midget Youth Speedway Project Inc.

Quarter Midget Youth Speedway Project was granted $4,000 towards the cost to purchase and install a concrete pad and patio roof to a storage facility. Currently the facility offers no shade for racers during race and training events.

  1. Stephen Michael Foundation

Stephen Michael Foundation were granted a donation to waive the cost of the venue hire fees at the Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre for Night Hoops Regional Carnival proposed to take place in Narrogin in April 2021 at the Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre.

The next round of the Shire’s Community Chest grants opens on 15 July 2021 and closes
