What Will Happen If I Can Not Pay My Rates?
Having Trouble Paying Your Rates?
If you’re finding it difficult to pay your rates, please reach out to us as soon as possible. The Shire of Narrogin understands that unexpected financial pressures can arise, and we’re here to help. Our team can work with you to arrange a suitable payment plan to ease the burden and help you manage your obligations.
Hardship Support is Available
The Shire has adopted a compassionate approach to ratepayers facing financial hardship. In accordance with Council Policy, we aim to provide flexible options where possible, including payment arrangements tailored to your individual circumstances.
If you’re experiencing hardship, we encourage you to contact our Rates Department early to discuss the options available to you.
Legal Action is a Last Resort
If we don’t hear from you, please be aware that legal proceedings may commence 14 days after the due date. This action is taken only when all other attempts to contact you have failed. Please note that legal action can result in significant additional costs to your account — often around $700 in legal fees, which will be added to the amount you owe.
We don’t want that to happen. Talk to us early, and together, we can work towards a solution before it reaches that point.
