Shire of Narrogin Secures $207,560 for Bushfire Mitigation
The Shire of Narrogin, together with Volunteer Chief Bushfire Control Officer Mr Pip Porter, proudly extends gratitude to the State Government’s Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), for their instrumental support in securing $207,560 under the Mitigation Activity Fund (MAF). This significant funding will be dedicated to implementing crucial bushfire mitigation works within our shire, with completion targeted for 30 June 2024.
Shire President Mr Leigh Ballard and Volunteer Chief Bushfire Control Officer Mr Pip Porter jointly expressed their immense appreciation to the State Government and DFES for their unwavering commitment to enhancing community safety and resilience against bushfire threats. The MAF grant will enable the Shire of Narrogin and the volunteer firefighting team to undertake essential projects aimed at significantly reducing the risk of bushfires and safeguarding lives, properties, and the environment.
Shire President Mr Leigh Ballard stated, "On behalf of the entire Shire of Narrogin community, I extend our sincere thanks to Stephen Dawson MLC, the Minister for Emergency Services and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services for their considered allocation through the Mitigation Activity Fund. This funding exemplifies the State Government's dedication to the wellbeing of our region. With these resources, we can undertake critical bushfire mitigation initiatives that will strengthen our preparedness and protection against potential disasters."
Volunteer Chief Bushfire Control Officer Mr. Pip Porter also expressed his gratitude, "As the Volunteer Chief Bushfire Control Officer, I wish to extend my heartfelt appreciation to DFES for recognising the importance of our community's safety and providing us with the necessary funding. This support will enable us to enhance our efforts in safeguarding the lives and properties of those we serve."
The allocated funds will be utilised to implement a range of bushfire mitigation strategies, including Fuel Load Reduction.
Both President Ballard and Mr Porter reaffirmed their commitment to completing the projects by the designated date, emphasising their dedication to effectively utilising the funding to achieve tangible results before 30 June 2024.
"Following on from the horrendous bushfires we experienced in February 2022, we understand the significance of timely action in mitigating bushfire risks. The Shire of Narrogin and our volunteer firefighting team will work diligently to ensure the completion of these projects by the specified deadline, demonstrating our collective dedication to the safety and wellbeing of our community," they jointly asserted.
