This is More Than Just a Board Game

Narrogin MONOPOLY is a once-in-a-generation community project that brings together local businesses, community groups, and iconic places into a fully customised, physical edition of the world’s most recognisable board game.

Facilitated by the Shire of Narrogin, the project relies on strong community and business support to proceed. If sufficient support is secured, the game will be produced and released ahead of Christmas 2026, creating a tangible keepsake that local families and visitors will enjoy for decades.

Why This Project Matters

Description of image

We all love MONOPOLY, but this project is about more than the game.

It’s about celebrating what makes Narrogin thrive today, supporting the businesses and organisations that sustain our town, and creating something tangible that tells Narrogin’s story in a fun, engaging way.

  • Celebrate the people, places, and organisations that shape Narrogin, from local businesses and community groups to the icons we all know and love.
  • Highlight pivotal local assets, the industries, services, and community features that help our town thrive.
  • Increase tourism by showcasing local attractions.
  • Secure a place on the board and help bring this one-of-a-kind community project to life.
  • Demonstrate community leadership by supporting a local legacy project that residents will enjoy and remember for years to come.

Participation is about visibility, pride, and contributing to something positive. This helps ensure our local economy and community remain strong, connected, and supported, bringing attention to our town for all the right reasons.

What the Narrogin MONOPOLY Board Will Feature

The board will showcase what makes Narrogin thrive, its businesses, community groups, and local icons. Each square and card tells a story about our town:

  • Business Squares: Highlight key local businesses across industries like healthcare, trades, agriculture, sustainability, hospitality, and more.
  • Community Chest & Chance Cards: Share the stories of local organisations, initiatives, and fun Narrogin experiences.
  • Travel & Attraction Spaces: Celebrate the natural and cultural landmarks that make our town unique.
  • Tokens: Iconic local animals and symbols for playful recognition and local pride.

How Places on the Board Are Decided

All spaces are allocated through a fair and transparent process:

  1. Auctioned Spaces: Most business squares, utilities, tax squares, and cards are auctioned online or in person. The highest bidder wins.
  2. Sector-Based Allocation: Board spaces are grouped by industry to ensure balanced representation. Each business or group can secure one square and one card per type.
  3. Premium/Open Spaces: Some high-value squares are open to any sector, giving additional visibility.
  4. Not Auctioned:  Tokens, Travel and local attractions are not for sale, ensuring Narrogin’s unique features are always included.
  5. Secondary Allocation: Remaining unsold spaces may be offered after the auction if demand exists.

This process ensures the board is vibrant, balanced, and reflective of our town.

Eligibility Requirements

To ensure authenticity and local representation, the following businesses are eligible to
participate in the auction:

  • Businesses registered in the Shire of Narrogin, and/or
  • Businesses with an active physical presence (place-based) in Narrogin, or
  • Businesses establishing a confirmed presence in Narrogin between 2026–2030.

Confirmation will be provided through a short declaration in the registration form (such as business address, type of presence, or planned commencement), rather than formal documentation.

The Shire may follow up if clarification is required, but the process is designed to remain simple, practical, and business-friendly.

How the Project Will Be Funded

Description of image

Narrogin MONOPOLY will be delivered through a community-led funding model that ensures the project only proceeds with strong local support. A category-based silent auction, running from 6–20 March 2026, will raise a significant portion of the production costs by inviting local businesses and community groups to secure board spaces, utility and tax squares, and Community Chest or Chance cards.

To manage risk and ensure sustainability, at least 50% of the total production cost must be secured through the auction before the game moves into manufacturing. This approach confirms genuine local buy-in, keeps the project grounded in what the community values, and ensures that those featured on the board are active contributors to Narrogin’s economy and community life.

The remaining project costs will be recovered through retail sales of the game over a three-year period. This shared funding model balances community participation with long-term viability, resulting in a high-quality, fully licensed board game that celebrates Narrogin and creates a lasting legacy for residents, visitors, and future generations.

Full auction details, timelines and payment information are outlined in the FAQs and EOI Pack.
