“We’re in it for the long haul” says Jas, who together with husband Aaron have re-decorated and rebranded a former main street cafe into the now 1950’s vintage style “AJ’s Diner & Lolly Shop’. AJ’s opened last weekend and, with nine staff on hand, they catered for over 300 orders.

Aaron, a former butcher and Jas a former chef have combined their specialties and offer diner-style meals for dine-in and take-away.  They have also brought with them their specialty lolly shop which is located in a convenient corner in the café.

“We’ve got a few more finishing touches to go” said Jas, “the black and white checkered lino we are planning will really tie it all together”.

The vintage-pink walls are covered with vinyl decals representing the swinging 50’s and 60’s, produced by local business, Unique Graphix.  Narrogin Chamber President, Bevan Steele said, “it takes hard work to run a retail business and the key to being successful, in regional areas, is for local shoppers and local businesses to support each other wherever possible, and thinking outside the box by offering something unique to draw people to town”.

The Shire’s CEO, Dale Stewart, and the Narrogin Chamber’s President, Bevan Steele, visited Jas and Aaron to wish them every success in their new business and acknowledged their confidence in Narrogin’s community and the wider district. They were presented with a Chamber welcome pack and the Shire presented local wine all wrapped up in the Shire of Narrogin ‘Love the Life’ calico shopping bag.

Shire President Leigh Ballard said “With over 5 new businesses recently opening in the CBD alone we are certainly getting some great shopping choices here in Narrogin and the district is really getting behind the new businesses in town”. “It’s really important to continue to look local and buy local first to continue to attract new and expand existing businesses and to make our CBD vibrant, interesting and welcoming”.
