MEDIA RELEASE - New “Recharge Retreat” Units Officially Opened in Narrogin

Published on Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 4:33:51 PM

The Shire of Narrogin has officially opened 18 new short-term accommodation units at the Narrogin Caravan Park, marking a significant milestone in supporting regional growth and workforce demand.

The project was formally launched today by the Honourable Stephen Dawson, MLC Minister for Regional Development; Ports, Science and Innovation; Medical Research and Minister for the Kimberley, alongside Shire representatives, key stakeholders, and local contractors.

Known as the Recharge Retreat units, the development delivers 18 self-contained, single-person cabins designed to meet the growing demand for short-term accommodation driven by renewable energy projects and associated civil works across the region.

The new units complement the existing accommodation at the Caravan Park, which has experienced consistently high occupancy, and form part of the Shire’s broader strategy to ease housing pressure and support workforce attraction.

Shire President Leigh Ballard said the project reflects Narrogin’s role as a strategic hub in Western Australia’s renewable energy transition.

“This development is about more than just accommodation — it is about ensuring our community is ready to support major investment and growth in the region,” Leigh Ballard said.

“With increasing demand from renewable energy and infrastructure projects, these units provide essential, high-quality accommodation for workers relocating to Narrogin, while also supporting future tourism growth.”

The project has delivered approximately $300,000 in local economic benefit through engagement with local businesses, trades, and suppliers.

A $1.5 million contract for the construction of the units was awarded to Fleetwood Australia, with the overall project representing an investment of approximately $2 million, including civil works and site preparation.

The Shire acknowledged the support of the State Government of Western Australia, the Wheatbelt Development Commission, and the Commonwealth Government’s Housing Program in delivering the project.

Local contractors and suppliers also played a key role, including Allwork Civil, Belvedere Homestead Nursery, CRISP Wireless, Great Southern Electrical, Kulker Construction, Makit Hardware, Melchiorre Plumbing & Gas, Narrogin Betta, Narrogin Earthmoving and Concrete, RJ Smith Engineering, and Thing-a-me-bobs.

The Shire also recognised the contribution of its internal works team and project management staff in delivering the development.

Further initiatives to expand key worker housing within the Narrogin townsite are currently being planned as part of the Shire’s long-term growth strategy.
