NARROGIN LIBRARY SHINES ON STATE STAGE - LIBRARY STAFF MEMBERS HONOURED FOR INCLUSIVE STORYTIME PROGRAM

The Shire of Narrogin is proud to announce that the R.W (Bob) Farr Memorial Library has been recognised at the prestigious 2025 Library Board Awards, with Library Officer Jared Egerton-Warburton accepting a Special Commendation in the Small Regional Library Category for his outstanding contribution to inclusive early literacy programming.

The award acknowledges the success of "Nelly the Numbat’s Key Word Sign Storytimes", an initiative developed by fellow library team member Tegan Winn. This innovative program aims to enhance accessibility and inclusion in early literacy services by incorporating Key Word Sign into regular children’s storytime sessions.

Jared Egerton-Warburton brings the program to life in his vibrant role as Nelly the Numbat, who is non- verbal, engaging young readers of all abilities with expressive storytelling and inclusive communication. His commitment to making the library a welcoming space for all children, including those with communication challenges, was celebrated at the awards ceremony held on Thursday, 31 July 2025, at the State Library of Western Australia in Perth.

Jared was accompanied at the event by Shire’s Executive Manager Corporate & Community Services, Ian Graham, who expressed pride in the team’s innovation and passion.

“Jared’s dedication to supporting inclusive learning, alongside the creative vision of Tegan Winn, reflects the Shire’s commitment to fostering a library that celebrates diversity and community,” Mr Graham said.

The recognition highlights how small regional libraries can lead the way in developing meaningful, community-driven programs that promote literacy, accessibility, and joy in learning.

Acting Shire President Cr Graham Broad added “The Council extends its congratulations to the entire R. W. (Bob) Farr Memorial Library team for their collaborative success and especially to Jared Egerton-Warburton and Tegan Winn for this well-deserved commendation”.
