Lotterywest Grant Secures Major Upgrade for Narrogin Town Hall

The Shire of Narrogin has been awarded $231,000 in Lotterywest funding to deliver important cultural infrastructure upgrades at the Narrogin Town Hall, strengthening community connection, inclusion, and access to arts and cultural activities across the region.

The grant was recommended by the Lotterywest Board and approved by the Premier of Western Australia, the Hon Roger Cook MLA, on 16 January 2026, under Lotterywest’s Arts and Culture Infrastructure funding program.

The funding will contribute to a coordinated program of works to address long-standing safety and technical limitations at the heritage-listed Narrogin Town Hall and ensure the venue remains fit for purpose as the region’s primary civic and cultural hub.

The Lotterywest grant will support upgrades to the Town Hall’s electrical capacity and distribution systems, enabling the safe and reliable operation of lighting, sound, projection, and event equipment. It will also contribute to improvements to stage rigging and front-of-house trusses, removing the need for scaffolding and improving safety for performers, technicians, and volunteers. In addition, the project will deliver stage floor capacity improvements, modern lighting, sound, and projection equipment, and improved air movement within the Hall to enhance audience comfort during events.

Together, these upgrades will significantly improve the Town Hall’s ability to host a wide range of community activities, school performances, civic ceremonies, and professional touring productions, supporting more inclusive and diverse cultural programming.

Shire President Leigh Ballard welcomed the funding and acknowledged the importance of the Town Hall to the community.

The Narrogin Town Hall has always been a place where our community comes together — to celebrate, to learn, and to connect,” Cr Ballard said.

This Lotterywest funding allows us to invest in the future of this important heritage building, ensuring it remains safe, accessible, and fit for purpose for generations to come. We are grateful for Lotterywest’s continued support of regional communities and the arts.”

The Narrogin Town Hall is a key venue for Arts Narrogin, the region’s peak arts organisation, which delivers cultural programs and touring performances in partnership with CircuitWest WA and other state arts bodies. The upgraded facility will strengthen these partnerships and ensure regional audiences can continue to access high-quality arts and cultural experiences locally.

By reducing reliance on external equipment hire and addressing long-standing infrastructure constraints, the project will lower barriers to participation for community groups and artists, improve affordability, and support greater shared use of the facility.

The total project value is $462,500, with the Lotterywest grant matched by a $231,500 cash contribution from the Shire of Narrogin, demonstrating strong local commitment to the long-term sustainability of this important community asset.

Planning and procurement will now commence in line with Lotterywest funding requirements, with works expected to begin later in 2026 following final approvals.

The Shire of Narrogin thanks Lotterywest for its continued investment in regional communities and its support of cultural infrastructure that strengthens inclusion, participation, and community connection.
