Lesson information

Aquatic education at the Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre, helping our community build skills, confidence, and safety in the water.

We’re excited to welcome your family to the Narrogin Regional Leisure Complex Swim School, where we provide swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, starting from as young as 6 months old. We offer programs for everyone, from infants through to adults, including infant classes, preschool lessons, and the Royal Life Swim & Survive program.

Infant & Pre School Lessons

Starfish (6 - 12 months)

Starfish gently introduces babies to the aquatic environment through soothing movement, sensory water play, and familiar songs. Designed for our youngest swimmers, this level focuses on building water comfort and strengthening the bond between parent and child in a calm, supportive setting.

As babies grow in confidence, mobility, and curiosity, we encourage more active exploration in the water. This includes gentle kicking, supported and early independent movement, and the introduction of basic submersions using clear, consistent cues.

Activities such as noodle rides, back floats with mirrors, and mat play help develop water confidence while supporting important milestones like head and neck control, sitting, and early movement. Through songs like “Wheels on the Bus,” “Twinkle Twinkle,” and “Little Pancake,” babies explore floating, kicking, and back-supported movement in a fun and developmentally appropriate way.

With plenty of smiles, laughter, and positive water experiences, Starfish lays the foundation for confidence and a lifelong love of the water.

Jellyfish (1 - 1.5 years)

Welcome to the fun and energetic world of Jellyfish! As toddlers become more active and independent, this level builds on their growing confidence in the water through playful exploration and structured activities.

We introduce bubbles, basic arm movements, and increased independence, along with assisted kicking, free movement with toys, and more controlled submersions. At this stage, children benefit from repetition and routine, so familiar songs like “Giddy Up Horsey” and “Jelly on the Plate” help them feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to participate.

Activities such as crawling on mats, collecting toys from noodles, and practicing back floats with mirrors support the development of coordination, listening skills, and overall water confidence.

With plenty of movement, laughter, and engaging challenges, Jellyfish encourages toddlers to explore the water with confidence and enjoyment.

Turtles (1.5 - 2 years)

In Turtles, our confident swimmers continue to build independence as they explore the water with greater control and confidence. This level focuses on developing key swimming and safety skills through structured yet fun activities.

Children are introduced to skills such as blowing bubbles, basic arm movements, jumping into the water, and climbing out safely. They begin linking short swim sequences together while learning important safety skills like turning and returning to the wall.

We also introduce gentle, more independent submersions, along with reaching and movement towards a parent or the wall. Activities like “Crocodile” and “Monkey Monkey” are incorporated into circuit-style tasks to build strength, coordination, and early stroke development.

At this stage, children learn through imitation and discovery, so lessons are designed with engaging, guided activities that support movement control and skill progression in a safe, social, and fun environment.

Octopus (2 - 2.5 years)

In Octopus, children take the next step towards independence as they grow in confidence and curiosity in the water. At this stage, we encourage more self-initiated movement, including blowing bubbles, jumping into the water, and practising supported floating with increasing independence.

With parents still close by for support, lessons focus on developing kicking, basic arm movements, and learning to turn and move back to safety. Through imaginative play using noodles, tunnels, and sinking toys, children are encouraged to explore and begin linking movements together.

This level blends fun and purposeful skill development, helping children build water confidence, improve coordination, and develop listening skills in a semi-structured and supportive environment.

Seahorse (2.5 - 3 years)

In Seahorse, children are building towards independent swimming as they develop confidence, coordination, and awareness in the water. This final parent-assisted level encourages toddlers to combine key skills such as blowing bubbles, kicking, reaching, submerging, and returning to safety with increasing independence.

Children explore activities like back floats, underwater tunnels, and short swims to a parent or the wall, helping them link movements and build strength and control. Songs and structured activities, including “Crocodile” and “Pirate Song,” add fun while reinforcing routine and skill development.

At this stage, children benefit from clear guidance and repetition as they gain confidence in their abilities. Seahorse provides the perfect foundation for a smooth transition into our preschool swim program, supporting independence in a safe and encouraging environment.

Dolphins (3 - 4 years)

Let’s swim like dolphins! In this level, children build confidence as they begin swimming short distances on their own. They’ll practise kicking on their front and back, using pulling arms, and learning how to float and glide through the water.

We also focus on important safety skills like jumping into the pool, turning around, and returning to the wall. Through fun games and activities, children develop coordination, strength, and confidence while learning to follow instructions in the water.

Sharks (4 - 5 years)

Ready to swim like a shark? This level focuses on developing stronger swimming skills and introducing correct technique. Children begin learning freestyle and backstroke while building endurance and swimming longer distances with more control.

They’ll also practise skills like treading water, diving for toys, and improving safety awareness in and around the pool. With fun challenges and structured activities, swimmers gain confidence, independence, and the skills needed for the next stage.
