           Shire celebrates youth during NAIDOC Week

The Shire of Narrogin together with community partners YMCA, Southern Wheatbelt Aboriginal Health Service, WA Police, Avon Community Services, Youth Focus, Southern Aboriginal Corporation and Kaata-Koorliny Employment and Enterprise Development Aboriginal Corporation (KEEDAC) are proud to present the ‘Always Was. Always Will Be’ NAIDOC 2020 Week Opening Ceremony. The event and program have been developed and coordinated with event community partners, and a supporting grant of $1,000 from the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

The Narrogin Community will celebrate NAIDOC Week with an Opening Ceremony in Gnarojin Park at 10am on Tuesday 10 November 2020. The program will commence with a Welcome to Country by Local Elder Basil Kickett followed a performance of the very popular Gina Williams song ‘Wanjoo’ by music and drama students from Narrogin Senior High School, and the presentation of the Narrogin NAIDOC Awards. Morning Tea will be catered for, and served by the hospitality students of the Narrogin Senior High School Trade Academy.

Event partner, Ms Leanne Kickett CEO of KEEDAC, extends an invitation to the Narrogin community saying ‘’On behalf of KEEDAC, we extend our thanks to the Shire of Narrogin and the event partners, for making this event possible, and we look forward to sharing this special day with the Narrogin community’’. Shire of Narrogin CEO Mr Dale Stewart, echoed Ms Kicketts sentiment saying ‘’The Shire of Narrogin is proud to work with KEEDAC and other partners in celebrating and acknowledging Always Was. Always Will Be, as we work together toward a shared future’’.
