Your Council has recently written to the Premier of Western Australia, on behalf of the 5,200 inhabitants of the Shire, to raise its concern about the proposed electoral reform that, if successful, could see the one-vote one-value system introduced. The proposed system would replace the current proportional voting system that has been in place successfully for many governments. To lose representation would mean country people will have their voice in parliament diminished and we requested of the Premier that Labor MPs be given the right to a conscience vote.
