On 28 July 2020, the Western Australian Planning Commission endorsed the final approval of the Shire of Narrogin Local Planning Strategy.

The Local Planning Strategy is a visionary document setting out the long term strategic land use planning direction for the Shire that sets out the framework for local planning and development over the next 10 to 15 years and covers the following areas:

  • Population and Housing;
  • Economic Development;
  • Infrastructure and Community Services;
  • Environmental Protection and Conservation;
  • Settlement; and
  • Cultural Heritage.

The Local Planning Strategy identifies future planning implications for the Shire on each key areas and outlines strategies and actions to address the future planning implications. The outcomes and recommendations of the strategy will inform the preparation of the review of the Local Planning Scheme, which is in the process.

The Shire President, Leigh Ballard stated “This has been an arduous task, since its first inception, through the merger of the former Shire and Town of Narrogin and to the final approval by the Planning Commission. This is a great achievement for the future development of the Shire”.
