Agencies Unite For Reconciliation

The Shire of Narrogin has collaborated with local agencies to develop a range of free events and activities for the community which recognise and celebrate Reconciliation Week 2021 - More Than A Word. Events will take place at various locations throughout the week of 27 May – 3 June 2021.

Reconciliation Week will kick off with KEEDAC hosting a Welcome to Country performed by Elder Basil Kickett at 2.30pm followed by Afternoon Tea on Thursday 27 May at the Community Hub, located at 2 Grant Street Narrogin. KEEDAC Chief Executive Officer Leanne Kickett said, ‘’KEEDAC is proud of the opportunity to partner with the Shire for this event. This partnership demonstrates the willingness of both parties to listen, and take action, I believe it speaks to this year’s Reconciliation Week theme’’.

Staff from the Narrogin Regional Library will hold weaving craft activities during Netball on Saturday 29 May between 10am – 12noon at YMCA Narrogin Recreation Centre. The community is invited to come along and make headbands and wristbands.

Morning Tea with the Elders will take place at 11am Thursday 3 June at the offices of Southern Aboriginal Corporation at 119 Federal Street, Narrogin. Southern Aboriginal Corporation’s Gloria Kickett said ‘’It’s so pleasing to see the local agencies and the Shire all working together, this is what Reconciliation looks like’’.

Avon Community Services and Moorditj Youth Foundation have teamed up to host a Bush Tucker Night for youth to be held at the Youthcentre on Fairway Street on Thursday 27 May from 4pm.
