Australia Day Celebration 2017              

The Shire is hosting its Australia Day celebration this year with an expanded program free to the public.

Family entertainment and activities will run throughout the day commencing with a BBQ breakfast at the Town Hall followed by a family concert and an outdoor evening movie.

Come and enjoy a fantastic day out in Narrogin on Australia Day, Thursday 26 January. There’s something for everyone.

  • BBQ Breakfast at the Town Hall 7:30am-8:30am
  • Formal proceedings at the Town Hall 8:30 am with music, poetry, entertainment and the presentation of the Australia Day WA 2017 Citizen of the Year Awards.
  • Kids activities at Mackie Park (opposite the Town Hall on Federal Street) 8am-10am
  • Sausage sizzle in Mackie Park between 4pm-5pm
  • Family concert in Mackie Park featuring local musicians from 3pm-6pm.
  • Narrogin Regional Leisure Centre’s indoor pool has free entry between 10am-3pm
  • Wrap it all up with a free family movie screening in Mackie Park at 7pm. Bring a picnic and a rug and relax under the stars.


Citizen of the Year Awards

The Australia Day WA, Citizen of the Year Awards will be presented by Local Government within local communities across Western Australia on Australia Day. The Patron of the Citizen of the Year Awards is Her Excellency the Governor of Western Australia.

The Awards reward and recognise individuals and organisations making a notable contribution during the current year, and/or to those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as; education, health, fund-raising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.

Australia Day WA and the Shire of Narrogin will call for nominations from community groups and individuals.  Nominations are submitted to Australia Day WA online or using the form available from the Shire’s administration office. All nominations received before the close-off date are provided to the Shire for consideration and selection.

Nominations open on 19 September 2016 and close on 31 October 2016. Nominations received after the closing date will be ineligible for this year’s awards.

Awards will be presented as part of the Shire’s Australia Day celebrations and all finalists will be notified by post and invited to attend the presentation.

All finalists and winners are also eligible to be submitted by councils or the original nominator to Australia Day WA for consideration in the Australian of the Year Awards the following year.

Citizenship ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies are special events where applicants for citizenship are required to make the Australian Citizenship Pledge. This is the final step in the journey to become an Australian citizen.

The citizenship ceremony is also an important opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of the Australian community. These ceremonies are sometimes performed at community events held on Australia Day.
